Crafting question - Blood item Helms/Ammy

[:1]I never crafted much Blood items besides gloves, which I got the 20IAS, and +2 skill (still working on a 20IAS and +2 skill). Anyways I was wondering about doing helm and ammies. Anyone ever crafted Blood amulets? You can get +2 skills right as an added mod?

Second question is a tougher one. For crafting a Blood helm, could I use Barb helms and circlets, or maybe even just regular helms to get + skills? For example if I took a bunch of Barb helms could I end up with +2 Barb? Could I use a circlet/diadem and possibly get +2 to Amazon or Assassin?

Edit: Forgot for helms you need to use a specific one, i.e. Casque or Armet...DOH|||Quote:

Yes.

Commonly people craft Caster amulets for the chance of getting +2 skills/15-20fcr (ie. 10fcr affix in conjunction with 5-10fcr from the craft). Blood recipies are most commonly used with rings for the chance of getting very high str/life (up to 5+20 str and 20+40 life).

If you plan on crafting with the same character that does the gambling of base-items, you will need a level 93 character or higher for all amulets to have a chance of spawning the +2 all skills affix (any recipy), and a level 77 or higher character for all rings to have a chance of spawning the highest str/life affixes.

Crafting on helmets requires alot more thinking. The helmets in the crafting recipies aren't able to spawn the same groovy affixes/staffmods as circlets or class specific head-gear such as primal helmets or druid pelts, which means that crafting helmets aren't all that common. Also the various base-items in the recipies can spawn the same affixes with different odds (explanation is complex, and require some insight into qlvl, alvl, ilvl and clvl), meaning that you probably have to stick to a single base-item-type to maximize the chance of spawning the interesting affixes. You are likely to have come across the same problems when crafting gloves. Assume for instance that you char is at level 50, and you want to craft some Blood helmets based on blue helmets that this char has gambled:

For all: ilvl is between 45 and 54 (gambled with a level 50 char).

Meaning that the ilvl of the craft will be between 47 and 52.

Helm, qlvl=11 has affix level between 42 and 47

Casque, qlvl=42 has affix level between 26 and 31

Armet, qlvl=68 has affix level of 37

As you can see the affix-levels vary a great deal. For instance only a Helm crafted in this way can spawn the affix Veteran's (+2 Barb Combat skills) whereas the other 2 base-items cannot. On the other hand the Casque has the very highest chance of spawning the affix Garnet (Fire-res 21-30), since the lower affix-level allows for fewer affixes.

So crafting helmets require you to find the affixes, you're looking for, and determine which char and base-items will be better suited for the task, in order to maximize the chances of getting the desired result. The same is true for crafting armor, gloves, shields, boots, belts and weapons. This is why so many successfully craft rings/amulets (it's simple) and why so few craft other types of items.

If you have a desire to continue to craft kb-gloves, mana-boots or similar, I advice to get some insights into the basics of crafting and item-generation. Just using a random char and random base-items can be a very expensive lesson (crafting mats are expensive) that produce nothing of interest.

Sorry for the long answer.
