First Uber Experience

I did it!! Mephisto dropped me in about 2 seconds as I was trying to curse him with a life tap wand. I had to exit the game and rejoin, I rebuffed with treachery and rolled the dice with just dracs. Thankfully life tap happened quickly and it only took 2 full rejuvs to survive before life tap. After mopping up the minions I went in after Diablo and Baal together. I made quick work of Baal no need for rejuv or anything. Diablo gave me the most problems, I tried to smite lock him bu he kept bone prisioning me which costs me the rest of my rejuvs except 1. In the end though I managed to solo it. End result 16/15 sintorch and the climax of about a month invested in building this character to where he is now

I usually don't bother about the minions. Takes too much time when you have many keysets to work through. It gets pretty routine after a while.

The minions aren't that hard to kill (a few of them are physical immune though), so if you want to clear the area, it won't be a problem.|||Quote:

well gratz :) next up d2clone

D2clone is a joke compared to ubers. I can beat him with my necro without urdars.|||Gratz man! Meph is a tricky one, sometime he doesn't seem to hit that hard, other times he one shots me through the lifetap.|||Thanks for all the feedback, ultimate goal will be to run into the middle of the pack and zeal all of them down in 45 second or so. I doubt I'll ever get to D-clone status as I only get about 4-6 hours a week and I don't posses a soj to wear let alone sell. I'd love to try any tips to do it cheaply.

Best Merc for LI's

As the title says, I was wondering what the ideal merc setup to take down Lightning Immunes would be.

I'm asking because of my LF zon, but I figured TrapSins and Sorcs would wonder as well.

Thanks in advance|||Holyfreeze Merc is pretty solid, i use him with 95% of my characters actually

Because of the slow and stealthdetection|||use a Holy freeze merc (Act 2 nightmare, defensive) with infinity if you can, or otherwise a might merc (Act 2 nightmare, offensive).

infinity will break most immunes so you can still damage them. (my current setup)

Might merc will do alot of Physical damage and buff your valk aswell so they can take care of the LI's. cehaper option, but in my opinion less effective.

Might will also buff your JAB Damage, so you can switch to that when encountering LI's

LLD Hybrid Runewords

This is pathetic

I stopped Public HLD (2007ish)

*Unless annoying few PvPers & personal-friends with Multi-Aura Barb. (1.12) & Grizzly-Shock Bear*

VLLD & LLD isn't same anymore

Few days ago and today @ USWest SC NL *Normal-mode*

Teleporting level 30ish characters (Non-Sorc.)

*Seen it before but abundant now~*

Self BOing level 40ish characters (Non-Barb.)

How bad was it when White items were around?

Possible for another Rust-Storm?|||anyone who uses those isnt a LLDer.|||Well for the teleporting characters they could easily be using tele charges, I dueled against a barb a couple days ago that kept a bunch in his stash.

But i've never heard of people using bo like that. That's pretty crazy. I haven't checked out nl in forever...maybe I should.

I vaguely remember the white ring era, and games where all the monsters that spawned were act bosses. Pretty crazy.|||Tele charge chars (often from a staff on switch) aren't that uncommon on east these days; you'll often see windies and the occasional wwbarb zipping around the moor. They can actually make for some fun duels, I've gotten in the habit of leaving multiple fissures for them to land in.

However cdm's right on, anyone using such hacked junk is pretty sad and isn't worth your time at best.|||i still have yet to run into anyone using those RWs though. i've been trying to get a bit of NL LLDing in every once in a while and i still run into the same 5 or 6 guys that i kinda know from way back. all the cool people are still cool to duel.

where's mebd been!?|||Yeah fortunately I haven't seen any just yet either.

Then again I hop on every great once in a while too, a bit more so lately, it seems half my /f list is back from crazy long breaks. Hopefully I'll catch you round one of these times.|||On the other hand, people are so quick to flip out about the LLD hybrids that I could barely join a game with someone I didn't know with my necro last season without being accused of using the White hybrid.

He used a crystal sword spirit.

Insight staff on switch.

...|||Mannnn I didn't even know people actually are using things like this. Blowing my mind man. Totally psychedelic.

Larzuk socket quest again, sry in advance

Hi,

im really conflicted on the information that i've been given.

Sorry if this being repeated many times...Just need to clarify

This is the conversation i had with my friend.

Me: DUDE...GUESS WHAT THE deleted I FOUND!!!??

Him: Ur Mom..?

Me: No dude...i found a white suwayyah with AWESOME mods in Hell pits

Me: SO Totally gonna use socket quest on it...Uber Chaos Suwayyah come to

papa!

Him: Dude..dont use the socket quest...anything from pits only gives u

1socket if u do the socket quest

Me: ....really?

Him: Yea really...

Me: ...

I found the suwayyah from a random monster in hell pits...

I read from various sources that mlvl = ilvl... And hell pits alvl = 85

Shouldnt the mlvl = 85 which makes the ilvl of the suwayyah 85?

I know that if any ilvl white is above 40...larzuk should give u the max amount of sockets.

Please clear my doubts...

And 2 more things...

I've recently been doing racking in hell tower. If i were to do a socket quest on a suwayyah dropped from a rack, would i get 3s suwayyah?

What about getting a white suwayyah from monsters in hell tower?

Thanks in advance, and sry for bothering everyone with this.|||i think all hell dropped items should give u max sockets via larzuk...i mean normal or superior quality...and pit is one of the highest area level location with 85.alvl so your friend definitely fails imo...|||When using socket quest on items dropped in hell, it will definitely get the max amount of sockets.

Not so sure on nm and norm.

Btw what are the mods on the claw?

Plus, you and your friend talk strangely.|||Please don't bypass the word filter by half censoring a word. Enchantress

Hey all,

Wanted to know what is the best build combo for an enchantress.

read that i should use rune word dream in a helm and shield.

Max warmth, Max fire mastery, max enchant, (duh)! and max lightning mastery

Would that be accurate or is their a better combination? I'm still in the early stages of this build and i have yet to restat. Thank you to any suggestions.|||PvP? PvM? or Enchant only?

That skill setup is great for non-es pure vita/max block build|||Well I consider the basic setup as:

"Passion" in PB

"Treachery" in some cool armor

Dual dreams

Arach

Soj or BK

Some gloves with ias + leech.

gores

Highlords / mara's

max light mastery, fire mastery, warmth, enchant and then slap rest of your points somewhere. Maybe static? Don't forget chilling armor.

Passion is used for the zeal. You should hit around 30 keys of max dmg (at LEAST) with this setup.|||I suggest getting the runeword Beast so that you could also change into a bear whenever you feel like it.

Most Populated Server? SC and HC.

hello. im looking to start a new character but i'd want to start in the most populated server so that trading would be easy. also thinking of making a HC character but i'd need people to play with.

if possible factor in timezones as well. i guess probably certain zones will have more ppl at certain times. my timezone is gmt + 8 and i normally play between 1700-0000 if that helps.

thanks.|||Just play in the timezone that matches your location. There are enough players on all realms.

Playing HC will reduce your trading chances somewhat because there are less people playing HC and people tend to want better (perfect) items.

Any social things to do in game?

I recently got back in D2 and have gotten a sorc into the 80's. I have started gearing her with some pickups from MFing and Baal runs. Then I realized, I'm basically playing a single player game. I have barely encountered any non-bot player that is willing to talk or do anything other than do runs. 95% of the games made are botted runs and for trading.

What do you guys do to scratch the social itch?

Also, how do people become wealthy without botting? I hear all this stuff about jsp or fg or something. Is that how people get items? They buy it?|||Do alot of trading on these forums or just involve yourself in general and eventually you will get to know people and become d2 buddies and have fun chatting while grinding for items and doing runs together. Trying to make friends with random people on Bnet is like trying to talk to a wall 99.9% of the time.

As for how people get rich...yes there are those who acquire items that way, and some bot, however then there are people like me who spend nearly all their hours doin run after run after run and acquire items the way it was intended to, and of course alot of trading on these boards. However just because you spend enormous amounts of time in Diablo doesn't automatically mean you will get rich or acquire everything that you want, this game does not work that way and it's all random and luck based more than any other game out there really, which is why some people end up buying items and or botting completely defeating the purpose of the game.|||Posting in community (like you just did) also helps. It's pretty relaxed over here.|||What I like to do is rush low level items or give away some low/medium items. People will actually thank you for it.|||If you can stand the stinkers, you can meet some cool people pvping.|||Quote:

Started D2 again recently and didn't have a mouse.

Played for a couple weeks with my laptop touchpad. Up to Hell Act IV on my pally.

Bought a mouse tonight.

Mice are good. I want to stab my eyes out after playing with a touchpad (which also bugs out on my laptop often.)|||Cool story bro! |||Touch pads are so inefficient. I can't stand using them on a laptop.|||Thanks for letting us know. I'd never guessed mice are better for playing games than touch pads.|||Genious! The Mac fails once again.|||You don't really need those last two words on that sentence boogyman.

"The mac fails." just works fine and is usable in any situation!

Speaking of mac's though, have you guys noticed a trend in more people buying heavily overpriced mac laptops as of late? I'm a senior in highschool and it's appalling how many people are deluded into buying a brand name rather than a good laptop. Eurgh.

And then when I try to reason with them that mac's suck, and you can get something better, for cheaper, they turn deaf ears on my words. It's ridiculous. It's like back when Copernicus was trying to tell the Pope that, in fact, the earth wasn't the center of the universe. And the Pope's like "Nah."

D clone still possible

Is it possible to fight the dclone/uberdiablo or whatever he is called anymore?

I'm playing non-ladder and if you can fight him on Ladder-only, then please excuse my ignorance.... But i thought i read that he appears after so many SOJs have been sold. I've been playing for about 2 months now and have yet to see him appear.

I imagine that it just isn't possible anymore due to the smaller community and the sheer fact that people aren't selling their sojs at a high rate anymore.

Thoughts? Comments?

I'd like to at least have the chance to fight him once.|||http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=223863

Dclone will walk on all HELL games on ladder and non-ladder. you will get the soj sell messages on normal and nightmare games but he only walks on hell mode

What can Pindleskin not drop?

Is there a list or something of that? I guess since he can drop almost everything, those things he cannot drop must be pretty awesome. Would be nice to see a list of them|||He can drop all unique and set items except Arachnid Mesh, Azurewrath and Tyrael's Might.|||Thanks. None of those looked very impressive so looks like Pindleskins runs could be my thing:)|||His drop rates were made to be abysmal.

Its probably worth it to run him at the start of your normal MF runs, but I've personally never gotten a decent item from pindle over 6 ladders.|||Damn! That's too bad then

i made a habit of running pindle in a mates baal runs a few years back. i got a perfect eth fathom off him while packing a mighty 6% MF. along with endless amounts of junk.

The ante-chamber is a free army for any necro. Drop rates aren't that great but speed is there? Trade off like everything else in DII?|||Eldritch is better than Shenk. Higher level IIRC, shorter distance, less other monsters. Shenk has more minions, but I'm not sure if that's so significant.

quick question.

Does bnet kick you off for a short time if you enter too many games too fast? I've been doing large muling to day and ive noticed after entering my game with 3-4 mules I'll be kicked from bnet for about 15 minutes.|||Yes, it's a feature Blizzard put in place to attempt to combat bots.|||you can easily avoid this by taking a few minutes between each switch.

like, make a mule game, perm it.

drop stuff, go to mule 1, pick it up, wait 2-5 minutes,

go to mule 2, pick up/drop stuff, wait 2-5 minutes

etc.etc. you get the point|||Yeah, I started having to take my time. Luckily I always got kicked right after my last pick up.|||Yes indeed, be careful when you're muling. Don't switch out too fast. As others have said, take a few minutes between each switch and you should be fine.

Botting

So we all know that if you bot, and then try to trade on this site, it's not allowed.

Even thought we have this rule, we don't really care, and I'd say we even welcome it. It adds more items to the pool to choose from, and lowers prices for items we might have never been able to get.

If we REALLY cared, we would ban people who quite obviously are botting. The ones that have absolutely HUUUUUGE trade lists (and often! they don't seem to need much time to generate all that ewealth at all), more than several hundred items on them (all of them top items mostly that people actually use, not low sets or low uniques), or the ones with gigantic torch lists, or monstrous anni lists.

So I was wondering if that's how other people see this too, or if it's just me. Perhaps I'm being a douche by this, perhaps not.

We have a "moral" ideal about botting, but it's so easy to just not care about it for the sake of ease.

What do you guys think? |||i think that you have no grasp on how quickly a shrewd trader can accumulate wealth through bnet and forum trades.

be careful who you point fingers at...you won't make many friends by being so quick to accuse.|||if you do this activity inform me if you find a 90+ mana, 20 or more pdr amulet or circlet please.

i'll trade nice items for it.|||Wendigoo, I just posted a thread where I talk about botting as something bad, I'm kinda confused on why you think I possibly bot haha.|||It might not be "right" to accuse people of botting in my thoughts, but I have to admit I sometimes come across a trade post in our forum that makes my alarm bells go off. It usually looks very similar to this:

I am sure you get the point. It's obvious from the restricted tc pool, with tons of the best items but no crap items, that they might be botting exp runs and using some kind of pickit program that only bothers grabbing good stuff, while leaving the junk.

The mods here have made their stance pretty clear... they hate botting as much as any of us do, but there is a slippery slope if you just "guess" someone is cheating, so I doubt they'd ban someone from this site unless there was proof - like someone dumb enough to admit they were doing it =p|||Yeah Knarl, I saw a trade thread today EXACTLY like that (except even more so) and it just made me think about this for a little bit. But you're completely right about the dangers of assuming people are botting, and then banning everyone and anyone who seems suspicious.

It's just frustrating sometimes.

What I wonder is what these people *do* with all this wealth. Continually make top gear characters? They gather so much stuff they could fill probably 10 accounts of perfect builds.

Personally, the time spent scrounging for the items is sometimes more fun than the end character (unless said character is a dueler).

I just checked out this persons trade list, and for god sakes, and among the other items they're selling, they also have 189 socketables for trade...yeah. You get what I'm saying.

By the way, what does tc mean? In this context: "restricted tc pool"|||Quote:

They are/were most giving members

Frustrating = Lag-era *Ladder III* of the Diablo II = *Poofed!*|||I wouldn't accuse the Torch people in this just yet, it's pretty easy to trade for whatever the items are that you need to go in that Portal. Organ sets, whatever. Those were/are even considered a currency type and aren't exactly difficult to farm.|||There is absolutely no question that people with multiple CoA's, fathoms, death cleavers, etc...and gigantic valuable trade lists are botting or in some way playing non-legit. Is it possible they are above board? Sure. Is it even remotely likely? No.

I AM a shrewd trader. I AM a skilled and avid magic finder. And even in my heyday, playing hours a day, I couldn't have generated the lists some of these people had a few weeks in.

That said, innocent until proven guilty.

Also, I'd exclude the anni farmers and the Torch runners as I highly doubt anyone would want to bot those or that there would be any point. Keys, maybe. The annis are farmable by people that are very dedicated and willing to spend days on end parked on IRC. No need to suspect botting there.

Its an elephant in the middle of the room, but its been there for a while now and I don't see it changing.

Please note, I'm talking solely of the lists we ALL look at and say, "there is no chance that person isn't botting their butt off". I'm not talking about people that just trade shrewdly. There's an obvious and apparent difference.

Diablo 2

I have a vision of how I want to play Diablo 2, but I need to find the right people to do it.

I don't want to trade for hacked items. In fact, I don't want to trade for items at all. I want to go completely untwinked. However, I do want to get the most out of our characters by planning and teamwork.

I want to plan out our entire team as a team. For example, assignment of mercs such that we get every possible aura, with the remainder being prayer mercs since it's the only one that stacks. One pally with conviction, the other with fanat. Things like this. It would all be discussed ahead of time and planned out such that the team operates most efficiently as a team. Then we would plan a schedule for playing. We would only play those characters during those scheduled times. Of course if you want to play more, you can have a different character that you play as you choose. But the team would only play as a team and stay the same levels in the same areas.

I just have a dream of the ultimate party that could rock the game even untwinked because of an insane combination of skills. BO, oak sage, convinction, every offensive aura, several prayers, etc, etc. And I would like to take a shot at finally making it a reality. The problem is that I don't know anyone in real life that plays D2. So I'm making this post and seeing if anyone is interested.

If you're a powergamer that just wants to make another hammerdin, this isn't the thing for you. We may be using some unusual builds because we feel like it optimizes the team. You have to be able look at D2 as a team sport. I know this is very foreign and probably impossible for most D2 players, so only reply if you're the kind of weird person like me that gets excited by this idea.

Thanks.|||Wow, this game is dead.|||I'd love to do this, but I just don't have the time man. Sorry. Going untwinked is where it's at, but I just don't have the time :/|||Here is a first draft of what I have in mind. It is subject to change based on your input as I'm sure there are factors I have overlooked.

Mercs: 1 holy freeze merc, 1 might merc, 1 defiance merc, 5 prayer mercs. These would be distributed to the eight characters. It really doesn't matter a bunch since we will all be getting the effect of all eight. Just in case we decide to go split ops for some reason (two mf teams or something) we'd try to make logical choices here, like the sorc gets the insight so she gets a prayer.

Chars. I will only list the skills you must max for the team. Everything else is whatever you want to do.

1. Barb. Shout/BO.

2. Paladin. Conviction.

3. Druid. Oak Sage.

4. Paladin. Concentration. (But don't make hammers because you're untwinked and you won't benefit from all the other auras.)

5. Druid. Heart of Wolverine.

6. Paladin. Salvation. (A little bit of overkill here, but this is untwinked and why not--you're still gonna have concentration, HoW, might, etc, so we have this luxury.)

7. Necro. Amp dmg and life tap. (1 point in each is fine since points only affect duration.)

8. Sorc. (Doesn't really have any party friendly skills (other than enchant but it's kinda crap untwinked), but there was an extra slot and we have conviction.)

General thoughts:

I honestly think even completely untwinked this party would be insane. It's so efficient. People might have powerful chars, but how many get to play with maxed conviction, maxed concentration, maxed oak sage, maxed bo, maxed shout, maxed HoW, maxed salvation, level 30 might, level 16 holy freeze, level 18 defiance, and 5 level 18 prayers. I mean seriously guys, this would be insanely fun.

Based on the way the auras shake out, it seems to me like the druids should go with shapeshifter/melee builds to take full advantage. But all the physical dmg dealers could still look for weapons with high elemental damage to take advantage of the conviction as well. Seems like a no brainer that the necro should go summoner with all the auras, particularly since it's untwinked. Man, I just got even more excited thinking about a summoner necro with all this.

druid pelt question

So, I've been searching for a 5hurricane visionary pelt for like the past 2 months, and about 15 minutes ago someone told me for the first time that this is 100% impossible to spawn. I spent some time researching this, but I can't seem to find any answers to my question. In fact, I can't really find anything regarding hurricane pelts in general, let alone hurricane/vis pelts...

So my question is, is it possible for this pelt to spawn? Am I on a wild goose chase? Any help or opinions or whatever would be appreciated. And a link to a definitive answer would be great. Thanks for the help in advance^^|||it can spawn, rare though.|||If there can be a plus 5 nado, there certainly can be a plus 5 hurricane.

it was on jsp, and i asked him for some type of proof to back up his accusation. he said it was IMPOSSIBLE to spawn, and didn't want to waste his time "proving" me wrong lol.

and uhh, i know 5hurricane can spawn. but can 5hurricane AND vis mod spawn on the same pelt? (vis=%ar per lvl)

That guy obviously has no clue and calling it a waste of time is just an excuse for not knowing himself. He just pretended to know it. Real smartasses actually want to explain everything, compulsively .

Staffmods are distributed on so-called tiers. Hurricane is on the highest tier and on a pelt which can have +2 druid, 20% of its staffmods will be from that tier. BTW, the most probable one is the second highest, the one on which e.g. tornado is.

In most cases, the L1 skills are on tier 1, L6 ones on tier 2 etc,. and L30 ones on tier 6, but there are exceptions (like barb combat masteries). There should be a list of staffmod tiers for each set of character skills in the statistics forum or somebody has the link in his bookmarks...|||so is there a definitive answer? can 5 hurricane AND visionary mod both spawn on the same pelt?|||It looks as if your friend was "sort of" correct.

Both visionary and +2 druid skills are prefixes that cannot spawn together.

HOWEVER, druid helms can get skill mods outside of the regular prefix and suffix system. That said, I would imagine that would be one in a million to get that set of mods.|||Visionary and +2 druid can spawn on a rare pelt, together with +3 hurricane, but on a magical one, it will be either visionary or +2 druid.|||@OP: wanting to make a polar bear?

also, sorry, i didnt see the question about the visionary mod, i was answering about the 5 hurricane part.|||my idea was gunna be a zeal druid with hurricane, cus ive never seen one. but attack speed wont be all that great even with passion pb. so im thinking of going zerker druid with hurricane. no s/s. just looking for a build ive never seen/heard of. and i think itd be fun to play around with

Just Quit

I just decided to give away all my gear because I find this game mindless and pointless and really wish I hadn't spent the last 3 months repeatedly killing the same monsters just to get better gear which I didn't really need because I could beat the game without it so if you think about it what is the point you know?

Run ons are my specialty.

I feel much better now.

I lol'd irl.|||What's the point of most of these video games? Do they advance me economically or socially?|||Quote:

No, but take a game like WC3. It's competition between two humans. That gives it meaning. You hone your skills to compete. It's like a sport in that regard (but of course unlike sports in many other regards). You could play basketball your whole life and never get sick of it.

Mindlessly killing the same monsters so you can get better gear to mindlessly kill the same monsters more efficiently is a completely different matter.

It's fun when you play for the first time, you go through the game, it's a challenge to finish it. After that it's just bleh.

By the way, I think the whole normal/nightmare/hell system is crap. It's like they could only come up with a story for 1/3 of the game, and were then just like "okay, play the same game again with harder monsters."|||If you really spend enough time thinking about it, there's no point to ANYTHING. Not even LIVING. If D2 is fun, play it. If not, don't. Good for you if you are doing something you find more meaningful, that's internal to you and in the end doesn't matter to anyone else.|||Quote:

If you really spend enough time thinking about it, there's no point to ANYTHING. Not even LIVING.

We live so our children can live. Rinse, wash, repeat... so kinda similar to d2 then?

Maybe I'll just go in the street and hand out all my belongings, quit my job, and live in a VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER.[/sarcasm]

If you are comparing life to d2 then u might need to talk to someon bro, or start enjoying its finer things like a juicy, freshly shaven *ahem* you get the picture|||No, I don't think you get the picture. You allude to sex --- OOOH and then ? So what? I feel sad for you if you are another one of the many whose self-worth is defined by how many holes you've been inside, and/or if you think that is the point of life. For animals maybe it is. I'm an EVOLVED human, I have ideals far higher than that. Guess what, sex is just pleasure like anything else, including video games or food or w/e. It's also a lot more work and money to get it, and a lot more fleeting.

If sex if what spins your world around, go get it. I don't care. If I didn't have working hands, I might prioritize it more.|||Food is necessary to live. And there are plenty of chicks who are into the Farmer type.|||A wise man said, "time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time". Still, all time is wasted in the final end (think heat death of the Universe). Human beings only live because their reason is too limited to truly comprehend colossal time schemes and because it feels nice to live (often enough). Hence why a high intelligence & depression can be a deadly combination.

For me, after trying SP for a while I discovered that the thing I enjoy the most in D2 is the trading process. Sure, it can be frustrating and at times it's you who gets ripped off, but nothing beats that rush when you buy a 20/17 SC or the like for a cracked Sash and a flawless Ruby*... Ofc sex is likely better, or educating Guatemalans, or whatever. It's easy to make good trades though, and you only lose time doing it. Hey - maybe in the far future gaming experience might count on your resume!

Why can't my merc use this helm??

Circlet I just found in A5 and imbued at normal Charsi. Level requirement 33, no other apparent requirements. Merc is L39 and cannot equip it. I can think of 3 reasons why he can't equip it:

1.) Mercs can't equip items with teleport charges, even if they are drained to 0

2.) Mercs can't equip items with +tree skills (I don't think this is true)

3.) The item or something else is bugged

Is it #1 then? I can't seem to find any confirmation of this on Arreat Summit or google searches.|||Thisis just a thought. Did you remove the biggins helm off your merc before trying to equip your new helm, or did you simply click one helm on the other?|||Teleport charges makes the level requirement 48(?) for non sorcs.|||Of course. Which is why if you transfer a teleport amulet lvl 18 to a lvl 18 non sorc the lvl leaps to 40+|||Quote:

SP mods & Bnet consequences?

I'm currently playing on both Bnet and single player. I wanted to make my merc an Insight on SP, so I am considering using the "rune word mod" (RWM). Would this get me banned from Bnet?|||Nope, you should be good.|||Could I get some more people's confirmation on this? I have read that some people make 2 separate installations to make sure things like RWM didn't get them banned from bnet. However, I don't know if that is just precautionary, or based on actual people getting banned for it.|||As The Noodle says, you should be good.|||Diablo needs a maximum of 3 gigs, that's 10c worth of HD space nowadays. So why taking a risk? Blizzard probably has no problem with people using mods at home, but they won't guarantee that it won't trigger their hack detectors on bnet.|||If you're going to run RWM then I would recommend using a 'vanilla' shortcut to access Bnet; that is without the -direct -txt. You don't need a separate install; just a second shortcut.

If you are going to go on Bnet and are using our modified gfx.dll to run multiple instances DEFINITELY use the original .dll before hitting Bnet (even to upgrade versions) because that WILL get you banned.

is there a way to hold 2 torchs?

so back when i first joined this site in 2008 i remember reading a thread on a site, i honestly can't remember if it was here or not, that you could hold 2 torchs on a character but you'd only get the stats from one. it was a way of reducing the ammount of mules you needed to hold them. i think it was a glitch of some kind (pretty much has to be as you can't hold more than one normally). i've been trying to find it because i'd hate to make 30+ mules to hold torches, and just about nothing else.

anyways i was hoping if any of you remember seeing something like this, or know if it's been patched. can someone point me in the right direction as google isn't being much help right now|||Quote:

I used to use that method when muling just to carry a bit extra , anything on your cursor when you leave game will be on your cursor in the new game .

Lost equipment

So the other day I died doing a blood run in hell. (my druid char) and when I went to grab my body all my items I had on were lost. What happened? It uses the gold value of all items on the corpse to determine which one to drag with you when you exit. Is it possible you had multiple corpses when you left and rejoined?|||Yes I believe I had two at the time but I had grabbed both and still had nothing on when I left. Then when I rejoined the game my body was still in the village besides all this when I grabbed my body in town it gave me back my second shield in my char inventory but nothing else. I lost a shako, wiz spike, quo armor or whatever that armor is that gives plus 1, dracs, arach and treks. oh and my maras and two sojs but yeah. WTF! 1.14.....

should we ever expect one to come? D3 is looking like November or Q1 2012.

But if its any later than that, I wonder if they'd continue to patch D2.|||Idk patch 1.14 prolly will not come till a very long time.|||I don't expect to ever see another D2 patch. The last one was a fiasco and a minor black eye for them (very minor as only people that play D2 would even know about it).

If we ever get another, it would probably be a labor of love with some motivated dev putting in his own time and then begging for testing resources.|||Well... actualy the las one was testing for D3 for the most part..|||I keep reading things online about alternate endings and more quests.... people are still buying this game after 11 years... You would think they owe us a lil something for sticking with it all this time.|||I don't really think Blizzard owes anyone anything really. It's not like their terms of agreement say "You are entitled to a patch every year." If Blizzard was to release a patch with an alternate ending, they would release it as a second expansion, which, in my opinion, would be unbelievably epic and once again I would have no life for a minimum of 2 months. Patches never really excited me that much.

To be honest, in all fairness, I find Diablo boring. I've played it so much by now, that there's nothing to surprise me anymore. Oh look, Blizzard created a new uber monster. Big deal, there are 2 other ones that people have a regular way to hunt and bring down merely to use its rewards to create cookie cutter chars. I remember "back in the day" when the game had no high runes, and the stuff that now is junker was uber 1337. Now, if you introduced Uber Tristram into THAT Diablo... now that would be a whole different story. CO-OP would be truly a necessity, and the game would be so much more fun (either that or there would simply be less characters that could pull it off, therefore making the game even less interesting). I guess the torches would make people kill each other after it was done since only one drops, but hey, it would've been fun while they were killing them :)

For a whole year I spent my time building new characters that I haven't played yet. As soon as I finished one, I would realize that not only did I not really know how to use it well, but it was probably inferior to the characters I had before so I would get bored quickly and quit on it. To keep myself occupied, I just make another one. Rinse and repeat. Magic finding... oh so darn boring. The same routing 30 times in one hour can drive you insane. I had a set playlist when I was doing my runs, and now every time I hear a song from that playlist it reminds me of the Tower Cellar as I was coming down for the Countess, 25th time in a row to whack her mercilessly.

I can't say it wasn't a fun game. But seriously, how long can you do mf, baal runs, pvp, and w/e, all because you want some more pixels.|||I think there'll probably be another patch at some point, but after last time, the first any of us will hear about it is when they announce the Player Test Realm.|||i completly agree with you boogyman.

and i add that diablo has transformed into a trading game. we don't play it anymore : we get quest rushed, xp rushed, and pass our time trading to equip those chars.

last week i started playing single player after too many years of battle net and i found it more fun..

and i don't think they'll be a 1,14 patch. when D3 comes out, D2 will be abandonned for sure|||if dual class(if it's real) gets introduced in 1.14 it might just revive the game a lil bit.|||what you mean by dual class? like half paladin and half barbarian or something like that?

Chests, Traps, and Reinstalls

I had originally patched my last game to 1.13(I'm not sure the letter). I then reinstalled Diablo II three days ago on a new computer. I downloaded the patch for my new install from the official site.

I've played for about three hours on the new install, and came across three chests (literal chests, not barrels) that have spawned two or three zombies or skeletons. This happened Act 1, Normal. One was the Underground Passage's sparkly chest, the other two were in Blood Moor and Stony Field.

Has anyone else found this happening? I can't find any wiki articles on the chest traps, so I'm not sure.|||I'm not sure what the question is

It's normal that traps can produce zombies or skeletons of a kind which is encountered in the area as well. I've never seen 3 coming up from a single trap, however, 2 was the maximum for me so far.

Battle.net error, need help!

So I downloaded the newest patch (v.1,13) and I tried to connect to all the realms, but none of them worked.

The error says the following:

Countess woes

Recently, (for the past few days~100 runs or so) hell Countess has been dropping lots of Hel runes but.. not much else. Finding an Ist last week gave me the will to carry on, but is anyone else having such a dry spell? The rates have been increased for 1.13, seems that I just need to keep reminding myself that.

Are there any stats on her current 1.13 rune drop rates? I tried searching earlier, but didn't find too much.|||Check out http://diablo3.ingame.de/tips/calcs/...lt&window=true It has drop rates for 1.10, but I think they are pretty accurate.|||she was shelling out tonnes of io runes for me at ladder start, a pul and a mal was a highlight :)|||I'd rather get the actual high rune every few weeks from running chaos/WSK/etc.. so I can't really comment on countess. Unkillable rogue archer?

I am a level 73 Paladin in Hell with max resists (except a few points off in cold and poison), 14% DR, 4200 defense (thanks Holy Shield) with good gear and 15%/+15 fire, cold and lightning absorption, max Vengeance, Fanaticism and Conviction. The other day, I was killed in 3 shots by a unique corrupt rogue archer in the Black Marsh. Couldn't even land a blow to her. Her mods included Extra Strong, Multiple Shots, Spectral Hit and some immunities. I had about 630 life and my mercenary had 900 with good gear. He was killed in two shots and I was dead in three. Any way to prevent this from happening in the future? Would a Shaftstop keep this from happening? Any feedback I could get owuld be greatly appreciated.|||Quote:

630 life

Very low for hell, some monsters will even one-hit you sometimes. I guess 1500 is the least number for Hell, my necromancer has 1679 before cta and merc 2150 before cta. Are you on bnet? I think you can have 16-17 life scs pretty cheap (maybe 1pgm each), also something is probably wrong with your build and other gear.|||You don't need 1500 life (and probably difficult to reach with an untwinked character at L73), but 630 is definitely too low for a melee character. Maybe 1000?

When running, every attack will hit and the block chance goes down to 1/3 its value (max 25%). However, you want to appoach quickly because archers will try to keep a distance, so either run zigzag or use charge (or both) to reach him.|||I run hell constantly under 1000 life as a CASTER.

However, at 673 you can and will occasionally get 1-hit as a melee. I would never go into hell lower than 1k hp as a melee.|||on bnet as a zealot i'm in hell with 1450 hp. that's before B.O but i still need to get some better stuff going. my build also isn't done, however it can run ubers just fine. just be careful, and i'd use charge to get as close as you can quickly so your block will be as good as possible.|||As said, this is probably about an untwinked character, so there's no point in suggesting investments into +life gear or mentioning BO (which needs a runeword which is way out of reach if there's no barb in his party).

BTW, a paladin doesn't need BO respectively CtA in PvM. He has maxed resists and 75% blocking. All he needs is protection from kills with 1-2 hits. For example, none of my typical characters has CtA, except the key gatherer (Nihlathak, tomb vipers) and I guess that character could live without it as well.

Hell Countess Rune Drop Frequency?

I usually do Nihlathak runs to get DKeys to build wealth, but have started running the Countess with my Tal's Meteorb to see how it compares. It takes a little longer to run the Countess, and the keys are worth less than Nihl's DKeys, but the rune drops might make it more than worth it.

Today, doing about 25 or so runs, Countess dropped Mal, Pul, Lum and a bunch of lower runes. I'm thinking this is a rather lucky set of runs for me. What is everyone's experience with Countess and rune drops? I'm interested in seeing how frequently people have seen the Countess drop Lem-Vex runes.

Party Size, Monster Level

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the formula that is used to calculate monster level with different party sizes? I've done a lot of Googling but I just can't find anything that talks about something other than experience share in parties.|||The monster level doesn't change, but monsters have 50% more life and provide 50% more XP per player beyond the first. 16 and 26 key = bad :p

Hi! I just bought a new copy of D2LOD from the official site for easy mule and solo-rush and I got 2x26 cd key, while my old copy of D2LOD is a 2x16 key one.

Now I wonder what I should do to install the new copy while keeping the old one and its keys >.<

A- Rename the directory of the old copy and then download and install the new one

B- Unistall the old copy, install the new one, rename it and reinstall the old one

C- Uinstall the old copy, convert the 16 keys into 26 ones (is there a way?), install the new copy twice

D- ?

I hope you can help me, thank you ^^

Edit:

I've found out that I can convert my old 16 keys into 26 ones at the official site.

Now can I go with method A or is it better to unistall the old copy and double install the new one?

Thank you ^^|||I beleive there is an option D available here.

Never tried the installer from digital verison of the game, but I assume you can choose which folder and name of it when installing the game.

Thus keep the old copy, download and install the one from battle.net, but make sure it doesn't install to a folder called "Diablo II" (assuming you didn't change the name in your first install). Instead change it to something like "Diablo two" "Diablo 2" etc, and it should work.

Do note that you cannot run the game multiple times under the same user (Windows operating system at least) without a 3rd party program, which most likely will be a bannable offence on closed battle.net.

However you can run the game under different users on the same machine, using the fast user switch option (again assuming Windows OS).

Your 16 digit key can be changed into a 26 one by registering that copy of the game with your battle.net account. You'll need to choose a different language though. IE UK English for 1 copy of classic and LoD, and US English for the second copy.

Edit: That is unless they changed how you register your games (cd-keys) on battle.net since I last registered my games.|||I downloaded D2, the install program lets me play only, it doesn't ask if I want to install it. Should I try to rename the old copy directory and see what happens?

Edit: I renamed the old copy directory from "Diablo II" to "Diablo II - 16", then I installed the DD version in "Diablo 2". There's a problem, when I run the new copy and try to play online it says something like "Battle.net cannot recognize the version of the game". Anyway to solve this? The DD copy should be a 1.12 version; btw the old copy goes smooth still.|||You could try and patch the game manually and see what happens. I've seen that error message before, but the solution eludes me.

Anyway here's the link to Blizzard's page for manually downloading and installing patches.

If it doesn't work, I'd try searching google if you haven't already, or do a re-install of both copies.

Start with the digital download, then install from your CD's. It's what I would do anyway. Good luck! :)|||Alredy tried to manually patch and it didn't work.

After that I unistalled both copies and started to install the dd one; when I try to patch (in game) it says:

"Patching cannot be completed because the patch archive is corrupt.

File name: D2XP_IX86_112a_113c.mpq"

Then I reinstalled the DD copy again..omg..and again the same error occurred; so I tried to patch it manually, it went smooth the first run, then I restarted the game to see if it was really ok and I was back to the first error: "Unable to detect the version blabla".

Maybe I should download the DD version again? Maybe it's corrupted?

Edit: If I run the game as Admin it works..BUT something is wrong, it's extremly laggy and slow..it's gonna be a long fight.

Edit2: Ok, I've made few fix and now seems to work fine. Now..to install the second copy (the old one) should I use the DD again since I've claimed my old keys and converted them to 26 keys? Ot should I rename and use the cds? Thank you.

Edit3: The DD doesn't work for a second installation, then I'm using the CDs.

Edit4: Ok last update, it worked! Thank you Korialstraz for your help, probably I could have skipped the whole thing if I've run the DD copy as an administrator the first time..lol|||Glad to hear it worked out! And sorry I couldn't be of more help, since I've only registered the games to store my keys, and never actually used the digital copies.

Sounds like you're running Windows Vista or 7? In which case running (and installing) older programs as admin can solve a lot of issues. >_>|||Hello,

Judging by the fact that you got that error, I think it's safe to assume that the OS you are using is either Windows Vista or Windows 7.

I've had that mentioned problem before... and as far as I've come to see, it's an administrative problem. The game is trying to write in a place in which it doesn't have the permission to write (for the patch.)

My advice would be to right click the icon, and click "properties." Go to the compatibility tab, and check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator" under Privilege Level.

If you are running Windows Vista or 7, I also recommend checking the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and making sure the dropdown box below it says "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)".

And as for running two copies of the game, I can't offer much help there as that isn't something I've done (at least not on the same PC) but I'm pretty sure it isn't as simple as renaming the directory... you won't be able to launch two copies unless you use a loader (which is considered a hack by blizzard) or use another method such as installing the game under a different user account (only for that account) and then using fast user switching (logging off one account, while leaving the programs running on that account, and then logging onto the second one.)

Although like I said. That's not something I have experience doing. But I hope that helps in solving your problems.

Did you know...

So we all have been playing D2 for a loooong time (at least I have). And sometimes I still learn something new about this game.

I would like to see this thread filled with little gems of information that are not general knowledge.

I'll start with something I have just recently learned:

Did you know that antidote and thawing potion give you 50 poison or cold resist and 10 max poison or cold resist for 30 secs.|||Very useful for killing Duriel. And they also stack, so 4 thawing potions will work for 2 mins.

I don't have much to contribute, but one thing I have recently found out that i never knew before is that in act 3 in the flayre dungeon and places like that, there are secret doors. I found out when i could see some gold in a small room but no way door or entrance. So I just clicked around on the wall and suddenly it opened.|||Click "n" to get rid of the bot messages in a game|||You can send and wait in peace for whispered messages in the special channel "the void". OMG! That's what triggers that! I've noticed sometimes the numbers show and sometimes they don't, and I could never find where to turn them on!

Umm, I can't think of many tricks atm, but some might not know: /fps will bring up a stat screen showing the framerate and internet latency (ping). This has been useful for me trying to get my ping down to a level where my tele doesn't just skip all over the place.

Oh, and sometimes you can tele into walls, and while just a novelty for most situations, sometimes you can tele into a wall in Duriel's chamber and if you have an AoE spell like Meteor or Blizzard, you can kill Duriel in complete safety. It's random when you can do that though and not extremely common.

ATMA Duplicating Bug

Before I start this post, I want you all to know this is not meant for trolling or arguments. This post is simply to answer a basic question.

I have read a lot about duplication on ATMA, and I know it is cheating (obviously), and unfair. I also know that it defeats the joy of finding rare items.

I have read people constantly say yes you can duplicate, but its not worth the risks!

What are the risks? Lets say you play single player only, can doing this destroy your characters?

I know one time in an open multiplayer game i picked up a weird looking unique item that i had never heard of and it made my character crash and unplayable. Would duplicating cause a similar effect?

Thanks for your help everybody!|||I'd ask the question in the Atma / GoMule thread.|||Duplicating with ATMA is very easy, but I am not going to discuss weather or not it will harm you, as it is a practice that is not supported by the SP community. The SP community also does not advocate using open Bnet for ANY reason, dangerous and bad stuff on there, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

If you have any more questions about legitimate single player play, I would post them in the single player forum. Or send a PM to Thyiad, the SPF moderator.|||If you were picking up items in Open Bnet then frankly I'd expect you to have problems. We won't touch Open in the SPF with a 10 ft barge pole because it is full of idiots doing stupid stuff. We don't allow any item or character that's touched Open Bnet in our MP/trade pool. It's almost certain to be come across something dodgy which we won't allow.

MP in the SPF is done over TCP/IP with other members of the SPF. People we know are going to play by our rules.

Using ATMA/GoMule to mule has been an accepted practice since before I joined this forum. Duping is not, never has been and never will be.

PM me if you are still confused.|||i always knew duping is not accepted, but people act like it will destroy their characters... I was just curious if it did that.

And i know about open B net. I learned my lesson! That was my first good guy, made a few okay runewords by myself, lvl 70 frenzy barb, lost him instantly. I almost cried lol!

Thanks everyone!

btw... Meteorbs rock!|||Apart frm what has already been said: It's not a bug with ATMA.

It's no secret at all that you can dupe in single-player by making copies of the saved character files. ATMA can move items from one character to another, store them in separate file and restore them from there.

Chance to Cast when struck

I have some questions about items with "chance to cast when struck". Let's say you have both "10% chance to cast lvl 3 Nova when struck" and "12% chance to cast lvl 4 Nova when struck" among your items. Can they both trigger at the same time? And these skills don't make you do a cast animation right? so could you cast your own Nova on top of the 2 that trigger?

Another question. The Hit Power Crafted Items all have "5% Chance To Cast Level 4 Frost Nova When Struck". can crafted amulets also contain the "of frost shield" suffix giving "5% Chance To Cast lvl 3 Frost Nova When Struck" so that one amulet contains 2 different lvl Frost Novas?|||If the level of the CtC spell is the same, the chances add together. So if you had 5% CtC L4 Nova, and a a 10% CtC L4 Nova, then each time you were struck you'd have a 15% chance to trigger it.

If the level of the CtC spell is different, you get two rolls. So yes, you could have both your L3 and your L4 nova trigger from the same hit.

Crafted amulets can contain all the mods that rare amulets can. If the mods already come pre-packed on a crafted amulet, then yes you can double up on that mod.

No animation on CtC spells. But all the CtC spells are so horribly low level that they're essentially worthless. You'll never get enough damage out of them to make them useful past A1 Normal.|||I was thinking of making a sorceress with all Hit Power items giving at least 50% chance to cast the lvl 4 Frost Nova. I know the damage won't be that great but it does benefit from synergies and Cold Mastery right? On top of that I want to cast my own Frost Novas which are much higher. Maybe not good enough in hell, but it will be fun in normal and nightmare i think|||fully synergized L4 Frost Nova does 40-57 damage. CM can, at best, double that to 80-114, which really isnt enough damage to do much even in NM. Even a L20 FN only does about 200-300 damage, which means your L20 Frozen Orb (a FN synergy) would be a far superior attack. And you have to actually get hit to get that to trigger, which sorcs usually want to avoid :)|||Sorry to bump this old thread but - "But all the CtC spells are so horribly low level that they're essentially worthless" is simply not true.

CtC FROST NOVA on a act 2/5 merc IS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD :). Getting the perfect gem early requires visiting some gem shrines... The mod can also spawn on magical amours so always identify and check for it...

Put the crafted Hit Power helm & amour on a act 2 mercenary - and you get "a holy freeze" merc from normal + an extra aura(prayer). The damage is crap the SLOWING EFFECT is golden...

An example of application - in chaos sanctuary - send the merc in, chill the screen - proceed to 1 hit chilled monsters with a big *** ethereal giant axe [vengeance + conviction]...

Unable to Play

hi i get a message everynow and then when logging in says battle.net unable to identify application version does anyone know what that means cause after that pops up i have to uninstall then reinstall just to play again also my screen got very tiny during full screen mod like it was centered or something.|||Hi, I think I can help you solve your problem.

From my own experience, the reason battle.net cannot identify the application version is an administrative problem. The easiest way to solve this, is to right click your Diablo 2 Icon and then click "properties." Check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator," and if your Operating System is either Windows Vista or Windows 7, Checking the box next "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and then selecting Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the dropdown menu.

As for your screen getting small during fullscreen mode, that has more to do with the way your graphics card handles scaling. Whether you have an Nvidia, Intel, or ATI/AMD chip/card, you should be able to change the panel properties somewhere in the settings manager (Catalyst Control Center for ATI/AMD cards, for example.) But if you want an easy fix, just right click your Diablo 2 Icon and click "Properties" and under the "Shortcut" tab, add the following to the contents of the box to the right of the "Target" box: " -windowed"

The line should then read similar to this:

"CProgram Files (x86)\Diablo II\Game.exe" -windowed

or

"CProgram Files\Diablo II\Game.exe" -windowed

or something similar.

The game will then launch in windowed mode, allowing you to play it in its native resolution, or use the maximize button at the top to maximize it without distorting it. It will also help if you make sure that you are using the highest resolution, (800x600, I believe), under the video options from the ingame menu.

Anyway, I hope that helps you solve your problem.|||ty i fixed it i just deleted everything diablo like on my computer then reinstalled and put it to admid only and now its fine and no more small screen...idk where the small screen came from anyway i had full screen before but oh well its fixed now|||Glad to hear it

I ****ing hate the Battle.net servers!

God. Just need to shake some anger of me.

I was just droptrading some items, and suddenly i get the "Unable to connect to Battle.Net" message as i try to connect.

Happens rather often, is it some kind of IP-ban instead of temp-ban? I cannot log onto the Battle.net with my other computer either.

Well, to be honest, most of my droptrades doesn't gets ****ed up. Althought, this did. I just lost a eDeathZerker and a GreifBA. Really, that is about half of my fortune.

Well, please tell me wtf that crap is. I'm getting mad at it. Although, you are getting used to the bad servers on Diablo 2. (Sad enough).|||learn one thing: use 2 keys and connect with 2 chars in one game. this way u won't loose items. that's the safest way it is and not even this is 100% safe. all the other ways are pure luck and u should not rely on them.|||This is what is referred to as a temp ban and applies to your IP. It happens when you enter to many games in a short period of time. If you mule by yourself, be extra careful not to enter too many games per hour.

When you have valuable items to mule, ask in the sticky in ETF and someone there can help you out. If the item is extra valuable, I always use the trade window and transfer to another char. As a rule of thumb, avoid dropping items you can't afford to loose on the ground. Other than temp ban or realm down, server crashes happen also from time to time.|||Quote:

Well, please tell me wtf that crap is.

The problem is that you are too reckless. You know that games crash from time to time, so why do you take these risks then? You might complain about Blizzard not fixing their game bugs, but you cannot complain about losing your items because of that.

I NEVER leave anything worth more than let's say Ist in a game with nobody in it. In fact, I don't do that at all, as it's easier to mule with two game keys anyway. Really expensive stuff doesn't ever touch the ground when muling, but is passed in a trade window.|||Thanks for the explanations. Although, i do not understand why they feel they need to have both a "Temporarily banned"-ban and one that just makes you unable to connect to battle.net. Also, i do have two cd-keys, although, i do not get the swap user method to work. Even though i got 2x ck-keys installed, it still says the other one is already on b.net. Might have been me that have screwed up with the CD-keys, after all.

Thanks.

And yeah, as Krischan said, i do have the knowledge that games might crash. I should take this as a wakeup-call.|||After this happens once, we all learn and begin using 2 legit cd keys to safely swap valuable items around. We've all been there.

Keep in mind, all your work is down the toilet in another 3 months at most anyways, so you can start all over then =D.

Sigh..... that still makes me nerd rage... or it would if I wasn't too apathetic.|||You know dude, i got rather deppressed by reading that. God, only 3 months to ladder reset? If NL wasn't so booring.. |||I feel your woes. Although I have never lost anything important because of it, It is pretty frustrating how unstable the servers can be. Keysets

I have noticed on some of the trade forums that some people have like.. 50+ hellfire torches

How are these people getting so many key-sets?

I have run countess, summoner, and nil probably 100 times (300 kills) and have only come up with 2 keys.

Is there some secret to getting the keys faster?|||Run targets faster, the top people are just trading for the keys sets most likely, also, running Nihl only is the best way to profit since those keys are 3x more valuable on average than the other 2. You can run Nihl in around 30-45 seconds, just make sure you do other things so you don't get a temp ban for opening too many games. you also get better odds of keys dropping by having more players in the game, so a lot of people will run nihl while waiting for the baal tp to get up. Nihl keys can be gotten faster on average and are worth 3 times the others...you do the math :)

Other bonuses:

Nihl gives the same EXP as baal

Nihl can drop almost any item in the game, but at bad odds still.|||they buy them from gold farming sites|||i am not sure how you did manage to get only 2 keys in 100 runs. you are quite unlucky:)

in the past i did what you do now, run in my own solo games but now i run in bot initiated baal games. as kestegs said i run nihl while others are waiting for bot. in solo games 1dkey would drop in 20-30 games.

with above method i can get 3dkey easily in maybe 20-30games at most (2hours lets say). at least that is how i get dkeys. aim for games with more leechers, increased player count increases drop percentage i think, probably related with no-drop thingy.

for t keys i also run in bot initiated games, countess can drop runes (mostly crafting runes) so it is still profitable.

for h keys, i trade with other keys. in EU i can always find a game for 1dkey vs 3hkey. on different realms i think it is same or very similar.|||Quote:

He gives far less IIRC, but his monster level is very high (95), so the XP penalty for the player level being higher than the monster level is less severe. However, from about L94 on, there's not much which gives significant XP at all, only Diablo, Nihlathak and Baal. All the others have monster levels of 88 or lower.|||I got 9 keys on us west - currently*.

Agreed. A Kelpie Snare is nice also...slooows things down a bit.|||Ethereal Oath weapons really took the fun out of finding that nice stylish rare weapon by being extremely difficult to top. When that runeword came out years ago, I figured most melee MLDers dropped their rare (or possibly magic) weapons in favor of the higher damage E-Oath to stay competitive. Rare elite weapons with just high ED and IAS bonuses were no longer adequate, and had to come with additional affixes (be it with self-repairing + ethereal and/or fools) to stand next to their E-Oath counterparts. Of course, every additional affix desired on a rare item makes it that much more difficult to obtain.|||Quote:

very well put. oath puts pressure on rare melee like harmony affects rare bows.|||To eleborate a little more on how that cute little rare compares to an Oath, a common two-hander is an eth Oath silver edged axe (and this is all relative as there are hardly many fury wolves at 49 running around to begin with).

Granted the silver edged doens't have a ton of range for a two-hander, 3 I think (Arreat Summit's now just displaying the range adder), that rare has the same range adder as a cv. The silver edge has it beat in terms of base speed [0] compared to [10] on the cv, as well as ias, 60 on an Oath with base 40 on the cv. You could shael it and maybe make use of it with a ton of strength gear: IK gloves and belt, Jalal's, Lionheart armor, maybe a rare ring with boatloads of strength. Ultimately you'll have to play around with TheDragoons wereform IAS/FHR calculator and see if it'd be worth speedwise.

Long story short, probably outclassed by an Oath in terms of speed and damage (comparable range), but it sure is stylish.|||Plus it's a failed Unique CV - it really tried to be something, this weapon :)

Login issues

This is a lengthy post so I apologize but I could really use someones help here.

I have been trying to solve this issue for about a month now. I've been on the blizzard hotline several times with different employees and still the problem persists. So just know that I have tried a lot of the quick fixes to this problem already without any luck.

I have windows vista (Which has many issues running diablo 2 I know)

I have already changed my compatibility setting to windows xp service pack 2/ and switched over the colour to 256/disabled visual themes/ disabled desktop composition

as suggested by blizzard.

I can log into battle.net where it brings me to the character select and here's where the issue takes place.

It started out by not being able to identify my version and I knew this was a patch issue and I did everything I could to make the patch recognizable. I let battle.net download it first automatically, then I went and retrieved it via blizzard.com then i reinstalled the entire game about 12 times and tried different combinations of the two and finally I don't get that problem anymore.

NOW, I am getting the infamous "Your Cd key is in use by..." and it says me.

I know it's not an actual cd key error but something else at work here.

After about 2 weeks of getting this error without any sign of a fix I decided to download diablo onto my desktop (it has XP) and I have been happily playing diablo 2 without much of an issue. But I still want to be able to play on my laptop(the vista one). I always try my laptop first and I get the cd key issue then I hop on my desktop and it can play freely without cd key issues. (yes it is the same cd key as my laptop but i never try loading both at the same time.)

ANy idea whats going on here?

Keep in mind I had been getting this error long before I loaded the game onto my desktop and it was purchased new through blizzard.com at the time I first loaded it onto my laptop with the 24 digit key and everything.

Please help...

-MattPokno|||I see posts about problems similar to yours all the time on these forums. I'll try my best to help you the best I can, so here's my advice.

First off, keep the box saying "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." checked, and either select Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the dropdown menu. I recommend Service Pack 3 if it's available, but I don't run Vista so I'm not sure if it's an option.

Second off, from my own experience, you don't need any of the other compatibility boxes checked, save for one. At the bottom of this window, where it says "Privlege Level", check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator..." and hit apply.

Now, we aren't done yet. I've personally found that people run into less problems when they run the game in windowed mode. It fixes issues with messed up colors and scaling that people often have. Switch to the shortcut tab where you see "Target:" and something that looks somewhat similar to this:

Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Diablo2.exe"

(This might differ slightly, but that shouldn't matter.)

Now add " -w" to the target line, without the quotes, and hit apply. When you're finished, it should look somewhat like this:

Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Diablo2.exe" -w

Then, try to launch the game, and let me know how it goes.

D2X Startup Error Help

Hey there :) I was hoping someone might have figured out how to work around this problem; when trying to start D2X, I get a message saying: "Error 25: A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct 3D."

I checked the D2 Tech site, and it recommends that I change to DirectDraw in the vid test, but I do not get that option when I run it; it says there is no compatible video mode and that the game can't run on the computer.

Not sure if I just need to have an earlier version of DirectX installed, or if there is another way, so any help would be appreciated, thanks :)
