D2X Startup Error Help

Hey there :) I was hoping someone might have figured out how to work around this problem; when trying to start D2X, I get a message saying: "Error 25: A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct 3D."

I checked the D2 Tech site, and it recommends that I change to DirectDraw in the vid test, but I do not get that option when I run it; it says there is no compatible video mode and that the game can't run on the computer.

Not sure if I just need to have an earlier version of DirectX installed, or if there is another way, so any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

Edit: Sorry, forgot to add system specs: Windows 7, DirectX 11, ATI Radeon HD 5570 Video card.|||Check the video test file in the Diablo 2 directory. The GFX test is in there and you can just skip the test and choose a mode manually.

EDIT:

D2VidTest is the file|||Thank you Thyiad, and long time no see :)

There doesn't appear to be a video test file, just the App for the Vid Test.|||Yep same thing. Click on it, it should run. :)|||When I click it, it runs the test, and after the test, I get a dialog box saying the game can't run, no video modes found, and an OK button, but no other options.|||When you clicked on it, did you get three click boxes? Run test, skip test, cancel?

I just skip test and manually choose.|||No, I didn't get those options. Just Run test. I checked the startup log, and here is the error part:

So it isn't a problem with DirectX, but with the Direct3D compatibility...when I run DXDiag, it shows Direct3D up to speed...I am perplexed.|||Are you using Sven's wrapper?|||No, never heard of it before :/|||Dumb suggestions:

1) Admin mode

2) Install out of Programs in case Windows doesn't like you editing files there

3) Video drivers up to date

Anyone else got better ideas?
