whats playing on a new ladder like?

i've always had the misfortune of coming into a ladder mid-late season. just seems like things that traded for hrs before, trade for mal now lol. although i have noticed something interesting that makes up for it. when everyone is rich, and you are poor, and they need low level items, they pay a lot because the only people collecting low level items are new players lol.|||takes about 3 days until it's the exact same thing.

bots and other stuff that shouldn't be mentioned here have ruined the idea of ladder, where everyone starts fresh. Which makes the whole idea of playing ladder kinda obsolete.

Have fun though :)|||it's pretty exciting when there's enough people going along. i'm pretty slow at leveling and all that so i was always amazed when i saw people in hell already baaling while i was still in normal.

if you want to find out, start with a group of people fresh on a different server. or you can do what i did and hop over to HC with a group to see what that's like.

wickedswami is jaded*. if you stick with this forum and stay away from shop type places you can get the "fresh" feeling still. i love seeing trades those first few weeks people trading crap they dont need for crap they do. it's all crap, but it's worth something!

*there is truth to what he's saying though down with bots!|||Quote:

one thing ive noticed is that a lot of useful uniques are hard to sell these days. i'm talking about the uniques that have better alternatives in runewords. and even things like ravenfrost and waterwalk boots. i had a 59 life 198 defense waterwalk that i eventually just dropped on the ground because i couldn't get anyone to buy it. and the other day i saw someone paying 2 hrs for a perfect one. it's all or nothing, literally. i've never seen an economy where something that is perfect is wildly expensive, yet something that is less than perfect, and perhaps above average, is useless.|||Quote:

My guess for why this is the case is that for those items like your example of waterwalk, most people that could use that item already have it and so the only reason they are looking to trade for it is to upgrade from what they already have, thus the high demand for "the perfect version". It really is pretty silly when you consider that the real game advantage is probably not that much with the perfect version, it's likely in that case that "the game" becomes finding that perfect item rather than the game of Diablo II itself if that makes sense. I find myself spending more time make trades these days than actually playing the game, and it's a lot of fun in it's own right. Eventually I get tired of trading and start playing the game more often, goes in waves.|||Quote:

you just described non ladder trading.|||I've played all the ladder resets and it's always hella fun in the beginning as the legit community battles to stay on top.

Soso items are hella expensive, especially those with mf (occy/tal's set) as they are highly sought after.

Then after a week or two the hackers/botters starts to come into the picture and that is when everything becomes non-ladderish once again.

The previous ladder reset will be my last.|||You gotta enjoy it for what it is. I really enjoy playing ladder, and granted some items I trade for, or got, were at one time probably non-player found, I don't feel too bad if I paid a equivalent price for it. To me the non-player part sort of keeps the game alive by replacing the amount of players that d2 has lost over the years.

Its unfortunate with some of the side effects, but as long as i feel that I've earned the item in a trade (not a lopsided ral for oculus kind of deal) the game can still be satisfying. I won't ever buy from sites, but I can't say definitively that I've probably never traded for a rune or item from a human player that wasn't player found. I just don't resell things I've traded for from other players.

For the same reason I started using this forum recently, its more fun to earn what you use then to get it for free, or nearly free. Trading here is a lot more streamlined with a lot more friendly users (that I've encountered so far ;p ). No pain, no gain.|||Right now the game is absolutely in the worst shape I have ever seen any game, especially this one. If the spambots do not literally drive you insanse, then the Chaos/Baal bots surely will. And that is in essence what is now left online. You can easily get the sense you may be at times the only human who actually is there. I do not even see dual games anymore. Every game listed is either a bot doing runs, or some bot making spam games. And of course you still have those lame "Free Drops-231".

Funny thing though is you don't see those pathetic scam games anymore, which is a plus I think. But overall D2 is dead.

I have only been back a couple of weeks, and I think that I have been able to join maybe one or two public games where there was actual social interaction with other humans. No surprise one of them was a cow game.

Anyone thinking of coming back to D2, might not even want to waste your time.|||I dunno sbn, it's only a waste of time if you want to play with the random people on b.net. Honestly that was always a waste of time. If you have friends to play with it's all good still. Or if you just want to play solo instead of leveling in stupid baal runs (those were lame before bots anyway).

The lack of duel games is kind of sad though.
