Diablo 2 running on netbooks with windows 7

[:1]First of all Im new to this forum and maybe to any forum lol- so hi everyone.

Here is the thing, Im a big fan of netbooks (or nettops or wathever) and I recently got my hands over win7. So I tried running Diablo 2 and I encountered the next problems:

1) To run Diablo 2 you must install it the same way you do in vista, I mean you need to select a different install folder address than program files/diablo2. I usually go for saved games in the User Account main folder.

2) Secondly there is a particular issue with Diablo 2, that is the intel atom graphics media accelerator driver that appears in your task bar. Main problem consists that Diablo 2 gets a slow frame rate when in full screen or windowed, it doesnt matter which dont ask me why. You might notice that screen glitches, but thats because intel driver has screen resolution notification active even if u disable it the slow frame rate will persist, and this is not only for online game but for single player and lan also.

[2] Will affect win7 users only, I havent tried vista but doing vista + netbook is a crime. I used the Toshiba NB200 in this test, which is pretty standard (with 2 gigs of ram). Yet, to the record I should say win7 owns netbooks and you should definitively try it.

3) For those who have a VIA processor, like the old HP mini. Dont even bother, the VIA application simulates a graphics card and works great on XP, yet the windows vista driver for VIA, doesnt feature resolutions of 800x600 and will be a pain in the a**. Worse, Diablo 2 will notice that you dont have a real video card and will refuse to run even on windowed so dont waste your time. Needless to say XP doesnt have any of these problems :P

I apologize for my English but Im not US. Hope someone founds this of any use.

tl;dr Diablo 2 + win7 + netbooks = Fail, blame the Intel Atom Graphics Driver|||Quote:

hmm, this isn't true. I was able to install it fine on my copy of windows 7. Could you present more detail for this phenomena? As in, what forces you to install it in a different folder.

This may be a problem with either the graphics card itself or the drivers being used. My guess is you have enough knowledge to determine rather your graphics card is powerful enough handle everything, so let it be the drivers that are faulty.

I feel kind of noobish for not knowing what VIA is.

Your grammar and spelling skills beat those of an average American, so no trouble ^_^|||i have one from assus with xp home on it (factory installation) and d2 works ok on it windowed. i did not install d2 but just copied it from main pc (d2 only puts some files on ur disk and some registry settings which are not important - only the files are; so copying d2 folder on any machine is enough; i guess this will work also for vista).|||Edit:

http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...25#post8012125|||I have a netbook with XP and diablo runs fine fullscreen or windowed. Sometimes the framerates dips below 25 when a lot of stuff is going on screen with the automap up but you get used to it (or just turn the map off).|||I have an early gen Acer Aspire netbook which can hardly handle any games at all but it plays Diablo 2 perfectly. In fact that is what I was using recently while on my lunch break. My netbook is running Windows XP.|||If you create a battle.net account and tie your Diablo2 & LOD exp. to it, you can download the game digitally no need of CD install. :) Incidentally this is how you can become elligible for the D3 Beta!
